Gold mine at the ghost town of Bodie, California

The abandoned gold mine at the ghost town of Bodie, now maintained as a California state park, produced nearly $15 million worth of gold over a 25-year period starting in 1877. The mine was registered in 1861. All mining in the area ceased in 1941 with this mine, the Standard Mine and Mill, being the most productive in the area. One general manager of the mine was Theodore Hoover, brother of President Herbert Hoover.
