Almost at the North Shore

End of California 267 at Lake Tahoe

California Route 267 has its southern endpoint at Tahoe Vista, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. CA 267 is a direct route between the communities along the north shore and Truckee. As I drove on CA 267 south of Truckee, it gave me the weird optical illusion of seeming to go downhill while having to accelerate because I was really going uphill.

This sign assembly also shows an instance, relatively rare but not totally unknown, of a three-digit marker whose numerals are squeezed into a standard "miner's spade" marker that's usually used for one-digit or two-digit routes.
