General Freeway

Named designation for Interstate 580 in Oakland, San Leandro, and vicinity

While many freeways in California have been given names, those names aren't commonly used in Northern California. A notable exception is the MacArthur Freeway, beginning in Oakland and continuing through San Leandro. The designation ends at the Interstate 238 interchange north of Hayward, where this photo was taken.

The odd angle of this photograph is the result of taking the photograph from the shoulder of the southbound lanes of Interstate 580. Unfortunately, from this distance, you can't see that the sign was still using letters made of button reflectors when the photo was taken in April 2008.
