Where the MacArthur Maze Originally Ended

The east end of the MacArthur Maze (the Distribution Structure) in Oakland

The original complex of ramps leading to the east end of the Bay Bridge originally ended at about this location, where MacArthur Boulevard and San Pablo Avenue meet in Oakland. With the construction of Interstate 580, the ramps to the city streets were still kept. From the sign gantry on eastbound Interstate 580, you can see that more choices are just ahead: for Interstate 980, California 24, and even Interstate 880 via I-980. All these signs used button reflectors when this photo was taken in July 2008.
