In the entry hall of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad & Transportation Museum there's this reminder of Nevada City's past. The sign was on the original station for a narrow-gauge railway that ran from Grass Valley to Nevada City to Colfax from 1876 to 1942. At Colfax, passengers and freight could transfer to the Central Pacific (later the Southern Pacific) transcontinental railway.

Engines and cars from the Nevada County railway, as well as early automobiles, are displayed in the museum, which opened in May 2003.
