Some maps of Riverside County in the area southeast of Thermal show that California routes 111 and 86S don't run concurrently along the same route. Yet here's this sign assembly, photographed in April 2005. I believe this sign is intended to show the way to 111 from 86S because there's not a direct interchange or intersection between the highways.
