The Old Style for the Old Route

Mission Avenue in Oceanside and vicinity used to be California 76 until a limited-access highway was built more-or-less in parallel with the street. The destination sign at this intersection just outside the Mission de San Luis Rey de Francia probably dates from the time when Mission Avenue was also the state route. At that time, button reflectors were commonly used on many destination signs on ordinary highways, not just on freeway signs.
