New Style and Old Style on Interstate 580 in Oakland

In April 2008, freeway guide signs were replaced on Interstate 580 in Oakland and San Leandro. What's more, each of the older-style gantries, which were placed at the gore point of an exit, was replaced by a cantilevered monotube mounted at the side of the freeway just before the exit. This example shows both old and new signs at Keller Avenue on northbound Interstate 580. The next exit after this is Seminary Avenue. Also note the brown color of the new monotube. That color probably reflects Interstate 580's status as a scenic route through Oakland.
