San Juan Bautista mission in California

The historic San Juan Bautista mission in the town of the same name was constructed beginning in 1797. It's still in remarkably good condition, and is in active use as a Roman Catholic Church. The original route of El Camino Real is nearby.

The church also was the location for several key scenes in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, as was the San Juan Bautista Historic State Park, just across a large square from the mission. The town itself has become an attraction for people shopping for antiques.
