Why It's Called Skyline Boulevard

View of San Francisco and Oakland from the Oakland hills

Skyline Boulevard runs near the crest of the Oakland hills. One vista point along Skyline in Joaquin Miller Park provides a sweeping view of the Oakland skyline, with the San Francisco skyline visible in the distance.

You can also see the suspension span of the Bay Bridge in this view (but not the cantilevered section on the Oakland side of Yerba Buena Island).

This photograph was taken on an unusually warm and windy morning in February 2001. Most mornings, it's foggy or hazy at 7.30 am, the time of day when this photo was taken.
