No Santa Maria or Santa Barbara? This sign gantry on US 101 southbound in Salinas indicates that the next major city is San Luis Obispo, with Los Angeles still to go, too. The exit sign for the Monterey Peninsula clearly has greenout on it, covering up some marker of the past. It's not clear from this photo, taken November 2006, but, at the time the photo was taken, all the signs on this assembly still used the older-style button reflectors.
