Big Orange Signs

Big orange signs on westbound Interstate 80 in San Francisco

With earthquake retrofit work continuing on the west end of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in 2007, exits were being moved and reconfigured every so often. Probably to indicate the construction work ahead, some of the exit signs were orange instead of green. Also note on this set of signs, photographed in November 2007, the use of US 101 as the route being taken rather than Interstate 80. Interstate 80 actually continues through the South of Market area of San Francisco until the designation ends at the Central Skyway. The main route of the freeway continues southward as US 101. But at Fifth Street, the freeway is still Interstate 80, not US 101. So the signs with US 101 qualify (barely) as sign goofs, too.
