Bridging the Spans

The tunnel bored through Yerba Buena Island connects the west and east spans of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. When this photo was taken in December 2012, the temporary S-curve was in use while the new east span was constructed. As a consequence, the left-side exit to the island was rebuilt as well.
