One of a Handful

Union Covered Bridge, Monroe County, Mo.

The Union Covered Bridge in Monroe County is one of only four covered bridges remaining in Missouri. The bridge, southwest of Paris just off Route C, is now maintained as a state historic site. It was built in 1871. Vehicular traffic used the bridge until 1970. Trucks that were too heavy for the bridge had damaged its structural timbers. The bridge underwent restoration in 1988.
