For traffic heading to the southeast, this split marks the end of Interstate 229. I-229 connects at each end to Interstate 29, forming a loop through St. Joseph, while I-29 largely bypasses the city.
At the right edge of the photo, you can see a 0.2-mile marker for I-229. I didn't see a zero-mile marker for the route when I took this photo in September 2008.
