Either Way, It's Finished

Since 1998, the marked end of Interstate 29 has been moved farther south in Kansas City, to the northeast corner of the downtown freeway loop. There now appear to be two endpoints, just a few hundred feet apart, and both on Interstate 70.

One sign is on the northern leg of the freeway loop, near the exit for the River Market ("City Market" on the next sign down the road.

The other is on the eastern leg of the freeway loop. The sign is shown here with the city hall for Kansas City towering in the background.

I suspect the official endpoint is at the point where Interstate 29 traffic feeds into either direction of Interstate 70, but it would have been difficult to sign the terminus right at that location.

These photos were taken in September 2012, 15 years after this photo of the signed endpoint of Interstate 29 was taken at a different location.
