In 2004, Missouri 249 was extended north to Carterville, running concurrently with three supplemental routes at various segments of the new route. Here, Missouri 249 turns south on Route AA while Route HH continues east. This junction is at the eastern edge of Carterville.
Also note that all markers are the "wide" 24" x 32" markers that Missouri began to use in 2000 for three-digit numbered routes and two-letter supplemental routes.
