With US 71 gaining the additional designation of Interstate 49 in 2012, travelers on 32nd Street (Route FF) in Joplin can take one Interstate highway (I-49) to reach another (I-44). Missouri 249 is the continuation of the US 71/I-49 route north of the nearby interchange to which this sign points.
