Aside from Joplin and other cities, another Business US 71 route was replaced in December 2012 when the Interstate 49 designation was unveiled. On southbound Interstate 49 and US 71, exit 33 leads to Missouri 175 and Business Loop 49. Missouri 175 heads toward Neosho on an older route once used for US 71, while Business Loop 49 heads toward Joplin, still on a previous route for US 71 which, until late 2012, was designated Business US 71.
