In November of 2002, MoDOT rerouted Missouri 13 south of Springfield and extended Missouri 413 to cover much of the former route southwest of the city. The realignment occurred in conjunction with the opening of the final section of the James River Freeway between Interstate 44 and Sunshine Street on November 26.
