Often, "pointy" style markers are erected as a result of a construction project. That may be the case for this marker, on Missouri 129 just off US 36 in western Macon County. That section of US 36 was expanded to four lanes during a multi-year construction project ending in 2006. G.R. Van found this marker early in 2007. It also may be subtly different from other "pointy" style markers that have been found elsewhere in the state, according to G.R.
Explaining the term "pointy" style: such markers use a state outline that replace the curves of the Missouri River north of Kansas City with a straight line that comes to a point at the northwest corner of the outline. See a comparison on Missouri 1 in Kansas City.
