Other states, such as Iowa, make it a routine practice to include shield symbols in destination and mileage signs. In Missouri, the practice had been relatively rare. David Backlin found this example on the Kansas Expressway (Missouri 13) approaching the Chestnut Expressway in Springfield. It's similar to signs along US 63 and Interstate 70 in Columbia, also photographed in 2005.
