While it appears to be an ordinary Missouri highway marker, the sign for Missouri 202 points out two distinctions that make it stand out from most other Missouri state highways:
- It is an even-numbered highway that runs north and south. One of the few other such state highways also goes into Iowa: Missouri 148 in the northwestern corner of the state.
- It has a number that is derived from another state's highway number: in this case, Iowa 2. (Iowa usually doesn't number state highways that way.)
