On Kearney Street at the northwest corner of Springfield, this older-style US shield can be found. At one time, Missouri used the same square style for all its sign blanks. For three-digit highways, this meant using narrower digits than for two-digit highways. For US shields, this sometimes meant using much narrower digits, as on this sign assembly going westbound on Kearney.
