Northbound on US 71 just before it turns off onto Interstate 44 near Joplin, through traffic continues on Missouri 249. This sign indicates that Missouri 249 is also the route for Missouri Southern State University. Notice the overlay on the last line of text for the sign. The university was formerly known as Missouri Southern State College.
