North to Missouri from Kansas

Northbound Kansas 238, the access road to the St. Joseph, Mo. airport

And you thought Kansas was west of Missouri. It is, except for a small piece of St. Joseph, Missouri. That section of land ended up on the "wrong" side of the Missouri River after the Army Corps of Engineers dug a new channel for the river as a consequence of devastating floods in 1952. To get a glimpse of access routes to the airport before that happened, check out an inset map of St. Joseph from the 1948 official Missouri highway map.
