Watkins Drive, US 71 through midtown Kansas City, is part freeway, part parkway. You can read the full story at the Watkins Drive portion of this site. On a visit to Kansas City in September 2008, I found this sign on southbound US 71 at Gregory Boulevard, just ahead of the only intersection between the 75th Street interchange (south of this point) and the Meyer Boulevard/63rd Street interchange (north of the intersection). The intent is obviously to alert drivers who may not be expecting a traffic signal ahead that there is a signal, it's red, and they'll have to stop.
