This 1989 photo shows multiple routes reachable from Interstate 635 near Riverside. Notice the fading on the rightmost sign, where the shields had apparently once been lower before the "exit only" advisory legend had been added.
A few years later, US 169 was routed away from Interstate 635. Now it runs along the Broadway Extension, skirting both Riverside and North Kansas City.
