Three institutions of higher learning are featured on this "big green sign" on US 60 at National Avenue in Springfield. Missouri State University was formerly known as Southwest Missouri State University. The name of the university was changed on August 28, 2005. It's the fifth name by which the institution has been known, and probably catchier than its original name, the "Fourth District Normal School".
