Independence Avenue in downtown Kansas City effectively becomes part of the downtown freeway loop while forming the southern boundary of the River Market area. US 24 runs along Independence Avenue before joining the freeway at the northwest end of the loop; Interstates 35 and 70 are on the freeway (the "6th Street Trafficway") itself.
