Even when Interstate 49 was dedicated and officially designated in Missouri on December 12, 2012, there were about five miles of the route yet to be built in Missouri. South of Pineville, the roadway made this turn in December 2012, indicating the point at which Interstate 49 temporarily ended. There was a gap in the Interstate designation between this point and a location south of Bentonville, Arkansas. Instead, traffic took an older 15-mile alignment.
