For years in Kansas City, the route of US 56 through the city hasn't been well marked. Most of the route is now the city's responsibility. So in 2001, the city put up new markers, including this one in the Country Club Plaza district.
Problem is, the numbers and the signs are small. The sign is just slightly larger than a No Parking sign, and the number in the sign is smaller than usually found on a US sign marker.
Also note the nonstandard (and relatively tiny) directional arrow just below the marker. One wonders how easily these signs can be seen by a driver, especially with the traffic congestion prevalent around the Plaza.
US 56 ends at Bruce Watkins Drive (US 71) about a mile and a half east of the Country Club Plaza.
