While Missouri did not start explicitly marking the endpoints of supplemental routes until 2001 or so, sometimes sign assemblies would combine signs to have the same effect. This 1986 photo shows the once-common small reassurance marker along with the "begin state maintenance" sign that is still standard in Missouri. Note that the reassurance markers included the county name. The modern, larger markers don't.
