Inset map for Columbia, Mo. (1959)

This is the inset map for Columbia from the 1959 official state highway map. Two numbered routes were shown on this map: US 40 and US 63 (both in red), as well as the newly constructed Interstate 70. The future route of the Interstate had been shown the year before as a dotted line. The portion of Interstate 70 in Columbia was one of the first Interstate highway segments to be built in the United States.

Also new in 1959 was Missouri 740, which would eventually form a loop between Interstate 70 on the north and US 63 on the east, going through the western and (then) southern parts of Columbia. On this map, only a short segment was shown (in red) extending west from Route K (now Missouri 163) near Memorial Stadium. Another new route in 1959 was Route TT in western Columbia.
