This is the inset map for Cape Girardeau from the 1969 official state highway map. A comparison with the 2005-2006 official map shows quite a few changes:
- Missouri 34 no longer runs along Broadway and Sprigg Street.
- Missouri 74 no longer runs along Sprigg Street.
- Missouri 34 and 74 now take a more direct route into Cape Girardeau, more or less parallel to Bloomfield Street.
- The Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge has replaced the previous bridge, with the new route having shifted south, running parallel to Morgan Oak.
- As a consequence, the south endpoint of Missouri 177 has shifted to the intersection with Missouri 34 and 74 west of the bridge.
- Going north to south, Missouri 177 now goes on Main, then to Spanish Street, then to Morgan Oak, then to Sprigg Street. (Note: Google Maps has outdated data for downtown Cape Girardeau and does not show these routes correctly.)
- In 1969, as you can see, Missouri 177 did not jog over to Spanish Street.
- US 61 and Business Loop 55 have not changed their routes.
