Confusing Central

Guide sign for a confusing intersection on eastbound Central Avenue in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Even though Central Avenue is the north-south dividing line for streets in Albuquerque, it's not a straight east-west route. Notably, between Old Town and downtown, it makes a couple of jogs. The jog pictured here is for eastbound traffic at Park Avenue by Robinson Park. If a driver continued straight ahead at this point, he or she would end up a block south of Central, on Gold Avenue. To stay on Central, you have to make a left turn at Park. Because of Central's status as Historic US 66, this is actually a useful sign for tourists and other aficionados of US 66.
