NM 1's north endpoint is in the college and mining town of Socorro (left). As is surprisingly common in other states, Highway 1 is a relatively minor route. It follows the old route of US 85, which was replaced by Interstate 25. NM 1 begins at Business Loop 25, just before the business loop rejoins the main freeway on the south side of Socorro. US 380 intersects with NM 1 at the tiny village of San Antonio, east of Socorro. The view on the right looks east toward San Antonio on US 380. These photos were taken in May 2004. |
