Northwest of El Prado (Taos), northbound NM 522 begins its journey to the Colorado state line. Note the fading on the red Zía symbol. This is a common problem with New Mexico route markers, doubtless because of the state's many bright, sunny days. The sun causes the red symbol to fade.
