Title

This advertisement in the Moberly (Mo.) Monitor-Index, December 17, 1971, alerted readers to upcoming changes to the phone service in nearby Clark. While ads in other newspapers focused on the changes in Centralia, which occurred at the same time as the changes in Clark and Sturgeon on December 19, the Moberly ad mentioned only Clark. The Moberly and Clark phone exchanges were adjacent to each other, and both communities are in Randolph County.
The same illustration of a disembodied hand and a telephone dial was used in all the ads that General Telephone placed to publicize the changeover.
Moberly was served by a different phone company, Southwestern Bell (now AT&T). Calls between Moberly and Clark were long-distance calls.
This ad also noted that the area code for Clark was also changing, from 816 to 314, necessitating Moberly callers to include the new area code when attempting to reach Clark.
