After being closed for most of 1998, the Illinois Department of Transportation reopened Exit 60 on I-72 during the week of November 15. IDOT completed work on the US 67 bypass west of Jacksonville along the new highway's southernmost two miles, up to the exit with Morton Avenue.
At the Morton Avenue exit, the Business US 67 exit sign clearly showed the Business designation of Morton Avenue. Morton Avenue is presently the main east-west route through Jacksonville. Along most of its length, Morton Avenue was designated as Illinois 104. It carried the US 67 designation for part of the way as well.
On November 21, 1998 no Business US 67 signs were observed in Jacksonville itself. In 2001, the Business 67 designation on Morton Avenue was replaced by Business Loop 72. In addition, a relocated Illinois 267 was brought northward from Interstate 72 to connect with Morton Avenue.
