US 61 and Iowa state highway 2 link up near Fort Madison, Iowa, and continue as a duplexed designation almost to the Mississippi River. At that point, Iowa 2 ends while US 61 stays on the Iowa side of the river, heading north toward Burlington.
Also note the special signs for the Hiawatha Pioneer Trail and the Great River Road, two historic or scenic designations in the area.
