At the northwest corner of Kingston, New York is the city's sole interchange with Interstate 87, the New York State Thruway (a tollway). Access is via Interstate 587; at the western end of I-587, a traffic circle is used to provide access to the tollway entrance as well as to a city arterial, Washington Avenue. Interstate 587 is a two-mile-long freeway extending from US 209, west of the Thruway, to an intersection in central Kingston.
