The Back Roads Get the Interesting Markers

Marker for secondary route 487 in Montana

Primary state routes in Montana are designated with a plain square, similar to route markers used in Illinois, Indiana, Texas, etc. As in Texas, Montana secondary route markers are a little more interesting.

This photo, taken in July 2010 in Whitefish, shows the arrowhead outline used for designating Montana secondary routes. Route 487 heads north from Whitefish, providing access to the eastern shore of Whitefish Lake.
