
The route shows up on Oklahoma highway maps as Alternate US 412. However,
at the town of Kansas, Oklahoma (yes, you read that right), the
sign assembly (right) points instead to a scenic route. The
route bypasses the Cherokee Turnpike, a relatively short toll road
(approximately 30 miles) connecting US 69 with US 59. The sign on the
left is an exit sign on the Cherokee Turnpike itself. (I'm not
sure why the colors came out the way they did, but the US 412 shield
is indeed brown.) The photo on the left was taken in 2003; the photo on
the right was taken in April 2000.
