The First Highway 49 Bridge over the South Yuba River

The original 1922 bridge over the South Yuba River west-northwest of Nevada City, California

This rainbow arch bridge, completed in 1922, served traffic on California 49 west-northwest of Nevada City, until it was replaced in 1993. The bridge is still in use as a pedestrian bridge over the South Yuba River. The new bridge is just a few hundred feet away.

Because it's now a pedestrian bridge, you can take a closer look at some of its decorative details.
