California 46 continues eastward from US 101 at Paso Robles. The sign says the route will take you to Fresno and Bakersfield. Actually, California 46 doesn't directly connect with either city. The connection to Fresno is via California 41, which intersects with 46 in northeastern San Luis Obispo County. The connection to Bakersfield is via California 99 in the Central Valley.
It's not easy to see on this photograph (taken in July 2005), but all the text and symbols on the overhead signs use button reflectors. Even harder to see in the far right corner of the photo is the sign designating the end of San Luis Obispo County Highway G14.
