Five Miles Away (in 2004)

Missouri and two of its neighboring states were represented in this sign assembly near the Oklahoma-Arkansas border. The signs were in Arkansas, the view looked east into Arkansas, and Missouri was about five miles away. So the appearance of a Missouri 43 marker for southbound traffic seemed a bit mysterious.

There's more: the assembly also indicates that an Oklahoma route (20) is sharing the same road as an Arkansas route (43). "East 20" and "North 43" eventually do lead to Missouri.

In 2006, Oklahoma replaced the marker for Oklahoma 20, but everything else stayed the same!
