When Interstate 49 in Missouri was officially dedicated and designated December 12, 2012, there were actually five miles of the route not yet built in Missouri. At this point in 2012, the route continued solely as US 71, heading another ten miles or so to the Arkansas state line. A curve in the roadway clearly shows the future route of Interstate 49 in the area.
